DmC: Devil May Cry is a video game developed by Ninja Theory and published by Capcom for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. The game is not related to the events that occurred in the numbered games as it is a reboot of the franchise. The console versions were released on January 15th, 2013 in North America, Australia and Europe and January 18th in Japan. The PC version was released on January 25th. DmC includes an additional DLC chapter, Vergil's Downfall, which chronicles the story of Vergil, as a playable character, after the events of the main game.

Dante is the protagonist of the rebooted portion of the Devil May Cry series. He is a demon-angel hybrid known as a Nephilim, who lives as a demon hunting vigilante. He is counted by the officials of his hometown of Limbo City as a member of an organization of "terrorists," and is being pursued by both national and worldwide authorities. Dante himself is a young and rebellious social outcast. He lives and fights in Limbo City, where demons seemingly influence every aspect of the world and the social condition of the humans living there.

Vergil is the leader of "The Order" and twin brother of Dante in DmC: Devil May Cry. As Dante's younger brother, he is a Nephilim born to the demon Sparda and the angel Eva. He opposes Mundus's tyrannical rule over humanity, and enlists his brother's help in gaining revenge on the demon king for tearing their family apart. He is also the protagonist of "Vergil's Downfall", an additional DLC chapter for the game.
